Social Investment

Who is eligible to apply?

all non-profit organisations including churches

How is financing provided?

  • with long-term loans at favourable fixed interest rates, including repayment-free start-up years
  • KfW does not grant loans directly to the investor but only via onlending banks. The investor is free to use a credit institution of his or her choice.

What may be financed?

in general, all social infrastructure investments that serve the achievement of a not-for-profit purpose, for example

  • hospitals
  • aged care homes
  • assisted-living facilities
  • outpatient nursing facilities
  • workshops for the handicapped
  • kindergartens, schools
  • sports facilities
  • cultural facilities
  • Land that is a necessary element of the investment can be co-financed if its purchase does not date back more than 2 years.

Financing is not available for housing investments (exception: assisted living).

What proportion of the investment may be financed?

  • up to 100% of the investment cost
  • Maximum loan amount: EUR 10 million per project

Loan term

  • maximum of 30 years with no more than 5 repayment-free start-up years
  • when the loan term is up to 20 years, not more than 3 repayment-free start-up years

Interest rate

  • fixed for 10 or 20 years
  • The interest rate is based on developments in the capital market.

Collateral

customary collateral such as

  • land charges
  • assignment of machines as collateral
  • guarantees (incl. municipal guarantees)

Combination with public funds

A combination with public funds is possible. It is not possible to apply for funds from the KfW Renewable Energies Programme at the same time.
